I’m located in the Raleigh, Durham, and Chapel Hill area in North Carolina. In addition to offering graphic design services, I also design sites with a special emphasis on:
- W3C compliance
- advanced XHTML and CSS structuring and layout techniques
- accessibility
- usability
- SEO
I also specialize in social media integration.

- installation
- customization
- theme-ing
- markovers: A markover is when I take a site with an existing design, usually table-based, and convert it to clean, CSS-based code, thus preserving the original design while greatly improving the site’s accessibility for both humans and search engines.

The benefits of clean, semantic markup
Search Engines love it.
Search engine optimization is a natural byproduct of a well-designed site. Search engines care less and less about meta data and alt tags and more and more about header tags and order of importance. They can’t begin to properly index sites where all the information is lumped into a table, or worse, a flash file.
Built for speed
CSS-based designs are loaded much faster than their clunky forefathers. This means faster display times for everything from computers to cell phones.
Coding for the future: Accessibility, Usability, and Compliance
As more and more people from all walks of life are coming online, accessibility is of more importance than ever. Guidelines are already in place, and now it is up to site owners and designers to forge a more ordered, compliant world wide web. Standards, from the USDA to the metric system to those outlined by the W3C, exist to ensure consistency and quality. Right now there are no enforcers of these standards online, but it still makes common sense to comply as much as possible. Accessible, compliant code is:
- Easier to update and amend in the future: no paying for code overhauls
- Less involved to style and design: you could hire just a web designer to redo your site’s look instead of a small firm
- A step in the right direction: Structured CSS and semantic markup are the future of the Internet.
