Quantum Salon, a beauty parlor with a retro spin

Wednesday, December 3rd, 2008

This mockup never got used because the commissioners abandoned the project for financial reasons. (I have, of course, disguised their information to protect them from shame.) The client’s salon had strong fifties influence, like Kat Von D meets Pleasantville. I’m beginning to think that the retro look is in vogue. This is my second rockabilly design after Percolate TV.

The client provided the pinup girl, and I edited her colors. This is the front page, but the inner pages were going to follow a different design, more abbreviated and with retro clip art of women doing their hair and such. By sheer coincidence, I happen to own a stack of books of retro clip art! Convenient, eh?

I truly loved the front-page design. I had been looking forward to adding this site to my portfolio so much, I’m posting the design here anyway.

    Hi Rachel,
I liked the design! Great use of color and font style. I am a big fan of retro myself. It has inspired me to put a couple of my retro pieces back into my online portfolio.

    Great Site!
